QualityAss.com is a nine-year artistic study of excellence — 88 organizations, observed, documented, and rendered as 88 unique works of art. One artist. Two years. A single delivery date.
All meaningful transformation is tension-driven. The gap between where something is and where it could be is not a problem to eliminate. It is the force that makes improvement possible.
This is not a metaphor. It is a structural property of systems observed consistently across disciplines — chemistry, materials science, thermodynamics, organizational psychology. Tempered glass derives its strength from engineered stress. Prestressed concrete holds more weight because of the tension built into it. The highest-performing organizations operate the same way.
Tensioneering™ is the deliberate design, measurement, and management of productive tension to drive transformation. It is the central operating principle behind everything QA does — how organizations are selected, how they are studied, how the work is produced.
In 2017, at nineteen years old, DeAndre Tention wrote an equation. He was a computer science freshman at SUNY Buffalo, studying calculus, when he became convinced that the foundational premise of modern mathematics contained a fundamental paradox.
A limit equal to infinity. An entire discipline built on a contradiction nobody questioned.
The equation cost him his enrollment, his stability, and years of his life. It gave him something the decade since has only confirmed: a certainty about how time, infinity, and human consciousness relate to each other that has informed everything built under this name.
"I didn't quantify infinity. I estimated its quantity. I'm probably off by 99% or more. But maybe I'm 1% off."
— DeAndre Tention, 2026The QTI is the operational expression of Tensioneering — the method by which the philosophy becomes a measurable assessment. It does not measure compliance, size, revenue, or reputation. It measures transformation capability: the degree to which an organization is structurally oriented toward improvement rather than the preservation of its current state.
Nine dimensions: Accountability. Reliability Under Load. Innovation Orientation. Transparency. Customer Experience. Adaptability. Leadership Catalysis. Operational Excellence. Continuous Improvement.
Progress over perfection. Direction over destination. An organization committed to getting better is more interesting than one that claims it already arrived.
Eighty-eight organizations. Selected by the artist. Studied for two years. Rendered as 88 unique works of art, delivered on August 8th, 2028.
The lemniscate — the mathematical symbol for infinity — rotated ninety degrees is an eight. Two of them is the number of the work and the shape of what began it. The date is not a deadline. It is a coordinate.
The 88 are not customers. They are not members of a program. They are subjects — the way a portrait subject is not buying a painting but commissioning their own place in a body of work that will outlast both the artist and themselves.
Each organization's expression of humanity — its thou — approaches infinity across the two-year study period. Each volume documents one subject's trajectory. No two volumes are the same. No two can be.
"The Medici did not buy art. They funded the conditions under which it became possible — and in doing so, purchased permanent placement in the historical record of human achievement."
— From the Founding Letter, 2026The annual record of excellence. Not a directory. Not an advertising vehicle. Not a publication that flatters anyone.
The Black Book is a limited-edition work produced each year documenting the state of excellence — organizations that met the standard, research into how quality is built and sustained, and analysis of where excellence is advancing and where it is retreating.
The inaugural volume, delivering 8/8/2028, is built around the 88 founding subjects. It is the first chapter in a permanent record.
The QA Index is the public record of organizations that have met the standard — reviewed, evaluated, and recognized through the Quality Tension Index™. It is not a directory. Organizations do not buy placement. They earn it.
The Index opens when the work delivers.
After Volume I delivers, organizations outside the founding study may apply for inclusion through the standard QA application process. The application fee filters intent. The evaluation determines outcome. These are never conflated.
The 88 is by selection, not application. If you received a founding letter, this is where you respond.
All other inquiries — about the Black Book, the study, the philosophy, or future certification — are welcome below. Responses are personal and considered.
